During an intimate family wedding in Egg Harbor, the couple crouched to hug a couple of young children and get a photo with them. After the posed photo, the couple kissed. The children's reaction was totally spontaneous...I didn't not set it up...they both reacted like this: covering their eyes, in dramatic fashion. The moment it happened, I only had time to snap one photo, and it is one of my all-time most favorite wedding photos. In the old days, photographers did not capture images like this. But this is why I got into wedding photography--to get these honest, fun, sometimes emotional moments. They used to call it "photojournalistic" which I very much did not like (having been a photojournalist.) I prefer "documentary" because you need to do everything at a wedding. You need to capture these moments, but also be skilled at posing and lighting, and directing certain aspects of the day. That does not happen with photojournalism where the photographer is in the background, capturing the proceedings of an event.
